Meet the Staff


Dr. Brendan Kraus

Dr. Kraus completed a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Pittsburg State University where he was also on the football team for the Gorillas. After 3 years, he was accepted into the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He then became the primary veterinarian at a start-up vet hospital in Louisburg, KS near Kansas City. He and his wife Tina moved back to Marion County in 2004 and opened Spur Ridge Vet Hospital in Florence. After 6 years, the hospital facility was expanded to Marion. His practice philosophy is simply to offer a high quality service across a wide range of species. Spur Ridge was developed to be able to serve Small Animal, Equine, and Food Animal patients at a level not customarily offered at a rural mixed animal practice. Great value is delivered to the clients by incorporating a friendly, customer oriented staff, an updated facility, and high level medicine.Dr. Kraus and wife Tina have 3 children, Taryn, Dylan, and Ryder. He enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends.



Dr. Chris Cox

Dr. Cox, formally a native of Andover Kansas, graduated from Andover Central High School. He received his associates degree in General Engineering from Hutchinson Community College while playing baseball for the Blue Dragons.  He then received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science at Kansas State and was then accepted into the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine and received his DVM degree in May 2015. Dr. Cox has been with Spur Ridge for a year now, and enjoys working with all species of animals that we see here at the clinic.  He strives to provide a high level of care for all companion and livestock animals and is a big proponent of client education.   In his spare time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, woodworking and home remodel projects. He loves spending time with his family and friends and his black lab mix Mack, and has loved becoming a part of the community here in Marion!



Tina Kraus, Office Manager

Tina graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. She taught Sixth Grade Science at Wellsville Middle School for 3 years while coaching volleyball and basketball at the middle and high school levels. She and her husband Brendan moved back to Marion in 2004 and she began teaching and coaching at Marion Middle School. After 7 1/2 years of teaching, she became a stay-at-home mom. She and her husband, Brendan, have 3 children, Taryn, Dylan, and Ryder. She loves being able to volunteer, teach and share her faith at Holy Family Parish. Tina enjoys being able to balance her busy schedule at the clinic with her crazy schedule at home.



Chelse Smith, Front Desk Receptionist

Chelse graduated from Dental Assistant School at Salina Area Technical College.  Chelse started her career at Spur Ridge in 2010 running the PI Testing Lab. She works in the front office as the main receptionist answering the phone, scheduling appointments, and checking patients in and out of the office. Chelse and her husband Jared, live in Marion with their sons Cole and Max.




 Leann Klenda, Registered Veterinary Technician

Leann graduated from Colby Community College in 2007 with an Associate's Degree of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology. After school, Leann began working at the Kansas State Medical Teaching Hospital where she assisted and supervised fourth year veterinary students in the Agricultural Practices department. After 4 years in Manhattan, Leann was pleased to be able to come back to her hometown of Marion. Leann, her husband Phillip, and children Kollin, Wesley, and Grace reside in rural Marion County. In her free time she enjoys team roping, playing with her dogs and being outside. 



Taylor Gibson, Registered Veterinary Technician

Taylor is formerly a Marysville, KS native. She graduated from Colby Community College with an Associates of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology in 2013. Taylor continued her education at Kansas State University where she graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology in 2016. While attending KSU, Taylor completed an internship working alongside rhinoceroses, cheetahs, and more exotic conservation species. While working full time, Taylor is a freelance artist and breeds hunting Labradors. No matter how busy she is, Taylor always makes time to spend with family and still manages to go hunt and fish with friends.Taylor lives with her boyfriend outside of White City with 2 her 2 dogs (Benelli and ZoeBelle) and 2 cats (Aries and Steel).



Breah Ungaro, Veterinary Technician  

 Breah graduated Hutchinson Community College in 2014 with a degree in Business Management and Entrepreneurship. She started   riding horses when she was 6 years old and has been training them since 2008. In 2012 she joined a small animal clinic as a   Veterinary Assistant/Technician until 2017 when she joined the team at Spur Ridge Vet Hospital. Breah lives in McPherson with her   husband, Cole and they have 6 horses, one mini horse, and three dogs: Denali (Border Collie), McCoy (Border Collie/Catahoula), and   Josie (Blue Heeler). Breah devotes almost all of her time to them when she is away from work. She spends most of her time barrel racing at local jackpots year round with a good friend and in what spare time she has left, Breah participates in the Royal Friesian's of Kansas City Drill Team and likes to go on nice relaxing trail rides with her friends.



Beatrice Holub, PI Lab Technician

Bea graduated from Butler Community College with an AAS in Business Administration. After working in retail management for several
years, she decided to take a different path at Spur Ridge Vet Hospital, joining the staff as a Technicians Assistant and PI Lab Technician. Bea was born in Marion County. She has two amazing sons, Axl and Knox, and mastiff Pistil Rose. In her free time, she enjoys boating
and fishing at the lake, hunting, and spending time with her family. 



Sarah Krispense, Technician Assistant

Sarah is originally from the Appalachian foothills in Ohio. She grew up raising labrador retrievers and was very involved in the breeding and AKC confirmation showing of the dogs . She also worked at a local feedmill for three years. She moved to Kansas in February of 2018 to marry her husband, Konrad. Sarah loves farming with Konrad and looks forward to moving out to their own farm soon! 



 Debe Knight, Groomer

Debe is owner of 4 Paws Pet Care, Herington, KS and has been a groomer for 28 years. She is a breeder of Airedale Terriers and Bearded Collies. She has trained and owned a certified Pet Partner therapy dog named Akela who accompanies her to Herington Elementary twice a month to spend time reading and visiting the students. Deb is a 12 year resident of Herington. Deb and her husband Butch have 2 sons, 2 daughters, and 13 grandchildren. Deb grooms every Wednesday at Spur Ridge. 



Jay Sanders, Farrier

Jay graduated from Farrier school in 1991 and began his career working full time. He has been a member of the American Farrier Association for 23 years and the Kansas Farrier Association for the last 15 years. Jay shoes not only pleasure horses, but performance horses as well. He also does therapeutic shoeing and corrective work, as needed at Spur Ridge. Jay has been married to his wife for 33 years, has 4 grown children and 8 grandchildren. Jay continues to enjoy his work and attends numerous clinics throughout the year to improve his skills for his continuing education. In the little spare time that he has, Jay has a passion for raising horses, something he has been able to do all his life. Jay and his wife reside in White City, Kansas. Appointments can be made on Fridays with Jay throughout the year by calling Spur Ridge.
